Audio file formats that can be inserted into PowerPoint include wma, wav, mp3, m4a/mp4 (PowerPoint 2013 and later only), mid/midi, au, and aiff.

Points to Note When Inserting Audio Files

Ondoku supports downloading in mp3 and wav formats.

Due to compatibility issues, if you insert an mp3 file downloaded from Ondoku, the last few seconds may be cut off.

In such cases, please download and insert the wav format file.

If this still does not solve the problem, try converting it to another format and inserting it.

Pros and Cons of Using Ondoku with PowerPoint

There are several other ways to add audio to PowerPoint.

What are the pros and cons of using Ondoku among them?

Pros

  1. Easy to use
  2. Easy to download
  3. Available for commercial use

1. Easy to Use

Ondoku

Ondoku is very easy to use.

Enter the text you want to be read aloud into the text box

Click the Read button

With just this, you can create a narration.

There are several types of voices, so you can choose your favorite voice to create the narration.

2. Easy to Download

Downloading is also very easy.

After clicking the Read button,

click the Download button.

That's all it takes.

No strange advertisements will appear.

3. Available for Commercial Use

When using it for work, commercial use is always a concern.

For speech synthesis software, commercial use rules are often detailed and complicated, and sometimes commercial use is not allowed.

In that respect, Ondoku is very simple.

Can be used in presentations such as PowerPoint.

Commercial use is possible even with the free version by providing credit attribution.

Cons

  1. Slides can become heavy (large file size)
  2. Credit attribution is required for free use

1. Slides Can Become Heavy

Inserting narration audio as mp3 or wav inevitably makes the file large and heavy.

This makes the slide's file size heavy as well, which can make it difficult to edit.

If you are concerned about the large file size, please try the other methods introduced below. While they might be a bit more difficult to use, they can somewhat prevent the file size from becoming too large.

2. Credit Attribution Required for Free Use

Credit attribution is required when using Ondoku for free in presentations, etc.

In a business setting, such credit attribution can be an obstacle.

In such cases, becoming a paid Ondoku member (from 980 yen/month) is a way to avoid the need for credit attribution.

Other Methods to Insert Audio

Besides using text-to-speech sites like Ondoku to add narration to PowerPoint slides, there are two other methods.

  1. Method using macros
  2. Method using PowerPoint's built-in features to create and insert audio

Method Using Macros

Environment

  • Windows 10 Home 1909
  • PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 Version 2008 (Build 13127.20409) 64-bit

On the following site,

PowerPoint including a note-reading function

is distributed. By downloading it and setting up a macro, you can synthesize speech and insert narration into PowerPoint.

Please check the following site for detailed instructions and downloads.

Method Using PowerPoint's built-in features to create and insert audio

1. Setting Up the Speak Command in PowerPoint

First, add the [Speak] command to PowerPoint.

  1. Open PowerPoint and click [Customize Quick Access Toolbar] next to the Quick Access Toolbar.
  2. Select "More Commands."

2. Reading Aloud

Try reading the text aloud using the Speak icon displayed in step 1.

  1. Select the text you want to read aloud (text box within the slide or notes) using the mouse.
  2. Click the [Speak icon] to start the reading.

*In PowerPoint, it is not possible to change the voice narrator.

Just like with YouTube videos, videos with only text can become boring to watch, or your eyes can get tired from reading.

In such cases, having narration adds variety and impact to your slides!

We hope you find inserting audio into PowerPoint useful for creating great slides.
