How to adjust the interval and blank time in Ondoku reading [2 types]

Hello, this is Ondoku.

One of the needs of those who use Ondoku is "I want to open a little more space".

In normal conversations, we don't pay much attention to spacing, but when Ondoku reads it, we realize once again how important it is.

Those who control time control the world.

This time, I will introduce how to open the gap.

If you want to open a little space, if you adjust the "interval",

  1. punctuation marks
  2. SSML

There are two types of adjustment methods.

Adjust spacing with punctuation

Adjusting the spacing in punctuation

  • ,
  • .

You can adjust the spacing slightly with punctuation marks such as .

However, it is not something that can "certainly take a gap of XX seconds".

In punctuation, you can only adjust the interval of about one breath.

to adjust the gap

  • ",,,,,,,"
  • "..."
  • “……………………”

Some people try to adjust the spacing by typing punctuation marks over and over again, but there is no point in using multiple punctuation marks.

Ondoku is not a specification that allows you to adjust the spacing with the number of punctuation marks.

A small “tsu” has the effect of slightly lengthening the interval between shots.

However, this method of using a lot of punctuation marks and small ``-''s will consume a large amount of the character count without being able to ensure the spacing.

Use the tag SSML when you want to have a long interval or to ensure that there is a blank space.

If you want to create a certain distance, I recommend

It is a method of adjusting the distance using a tag called SSML .

If you use this method, make sure you read less than 3000 characters at a time. Anything over 3000 characters is error prone.

What is SSML
SSML is a speech markup language. Speaking of the same markup language, HTML is famous.

You might be thinking, "Marking up something invisible?"

SSML is written in a similar way to HTML, so if you have ever created a website, you should be able to understand it quickly.

In case of SSML, write the tag as below.

In order to make it easier to understand the interval, I put a interval of 1 second to 5 seconds.

S stands for seconds in English stands for seconds
By increasing the number in front of S, you can make the distance longer.
MS stands for milliseconds

Only two tags are needed to get the distance.

This tag is necessary to tell Ondoku that "this document uses SSML".

Put them at the beginning and end of each sentence.

It is a tag with the meaning of break time = break.

By putting your favorite number in the ○, you can take the distance of that length.

s is an abbreviation for seconds, which means seconds in English.

It means 1s=1 second.

ms stands for milliseconds.

"1000ms = 1s", 1000 milliseconds is the same as 1 second.

The SSML tags we currently support for all languages are

There are only two types of tags. Other tags cannot be used depending on language or audio type. Please note.

I don't want to use it because the number of characters becomes long.

Only these two tags don't count the number of characters.

However, if there is even a single character error in the tag, such as an extra space, the tag cannot be recognized correctly. So count the characters.

Precautions when using SSML

  1. 3000 characters or less
  2. don't use extra symbols
  3. If there is an error in the tag even by one character, it cannot be read aloud
  4. Don't specify seconds that are too long

1. Keep it under 3000 characters

When using SSML, read out less than 3000 characters at a time. More than 3000 characters will cause an error.

2. don't use extra symbols

If you use SSML, do not include symbols in the reading text.

In particular, symbols such as < > "" & cannot be used, so if they are included in the text you want to read, you will not be able to read them.

Read aloud with other symbols removed.

3. If there is an error in even one character in the tag, it cannot be read aloud

SSML is the same as programming code, if there is an error in even one character, it cannot be read aloud.

An extra space in the tag, an extra slash, or even a single letter in the wrong alphabet.

That alone makes it impossible to read aloud.

We recommend copying and pasting tags from HP.

Tags are very delicate. Be very careful when writing your own tags.

4. Don't specify seconds that are too long

Specifying a number of seconds that is too long (eg 30s) will cause an error.

For other errors when using SSML, please see here.

Common errors and workarounds when using Speech Markup Language (SSML)

I introduced two ways to keep the distance when reading Ondoku.

SSML may look difficult at first, but it's very easy to use. If you just want to make space, this is the easiest and recommended method.

Please try it!

Text-to-speech software "Ondoku" can read out 5000 characters every month with AI voice for free. You can easily download MP3s and commercial use is also possible. There are many useful functions such as an extension function ( Ondoku3-ChatGPT ) that allows you to talk with ChatGPT for free. Please use Ondoku.
