Do you know how long the text read aloud with Ondoku and its audio data are stored?
Actually, the retention period varies depending on the membership plan.
This article explains the retention period for read-aloud history for each Ondoku membership plan and important points to note.
Retention period for read-aloud text and audio data
The retention period for text read aloud with Ondoku and its audio data varies depending on your membership status.
The retention periods and how the data is handled are as follows.
- Non-members: Not stored
- Free members: Read-aloud text and audio data are stored for one month
- Paid members: Text and audio data are stored for the period selected in Settings (choose from 12, 24, or 36 months, or indefinitely. The default is 12 months.)
- Business plan members: Stored unless the member deletes their history
When the retention period ends,
- Text read aloud
- Uploaded images
- Generated audio data
will all be deleted from the server.
Paid members can change the retention period from “History retention period” on the Settings screen. For users who have been using the service for some time, a period based on their usage duration has been set. Read-alouds that are being shared are not subject to automatic deletion.
Other ways to delete read-aloud text and audio data
You can use the delete function in your history at any time to delete
- Text read aloud
- Uploaded images
- Generated audio data
all from the server.

With the new “delete” function, you can now easily delete your previously read-aloud data yourself! Here’s how to use the delete and bulk delete functions, and what to keep in mind.
Important points about deleting data
Please note that data cannot be restored after it has been deleted.
If you want to keep your data, please save the text and manage the data on your own device.
Specific examples for each membership type
If you cancel your free membership and become a non-member
Free member → Non-member
Your read-aloud data will be handled in the same way as non-member data.
Starting on the day you cancel, you will no longer be able to view or download data you read aloud previously.
If you cancel your paid membership and become a free member
Paid member → Free member
(Basic, Value, or Premium)
Data read aloud during your paid membership will be handled in the same way as free member data.
All data will be automatically deleted one month after it was read aloud.
If you cancel your Business plan membership and become a free member
(Business plan member → Free member)
Data read aloud while you were a Business plan member will be handled as it was during your Business plan membership and will not be deleted.
Data created as a free member after cancellation will be handled in the same way as free member data and will be deleted one month after it was read aloud.
